I have had similar experiences. I can walk into a room full of people and the ones who make eye contact first are the children. They just seem to know that I am receptive to them.

Children understand body language far better than they do the english language. Much as animals can "smell" fear, children can sense our interest in them; and they like it.

We come into this world naked and screaming. But from the moment the umbilical cord is cut, we begin searching for acceptance and love. With infants, having people take care of them is a matter of survival. Parental bonding takes place as much out of necessity as it does out of love.

As the child grows, it becomes a matter of esteem building and finding a place on the social ladder. They try to broaden their horizons, searching out friendships in the greater world. They know their parents will love them because they have to. When an adult outside the family, who doesn't have to care, loves the child as well, it reassures her that she is lovable as an individual person, not just as a member of her family. Extra-familial love breeds self respect and builds self esteem in the child.

This is the greatest benefit Child Lovers give to children. We make them feel wanted, loved and cherished, and that makes them more confident, caring, and eager to go forward in life. Children want positive attention from caring adults more than anything else in the world. Child Lovers offer that in abundance. It could be said that a child without a loving and attentive pedo friend is at a big disadvantage compared to those who are fortunate enough to have befriended one.

Being that special friend to children is what should makes us content to be Child Lovers. Even though we know that we will not have an opportunity to safely explore the sexual side of things, we should always remember that just being a friend to children helps them, and us too, in countless ways.
