on one hand, i think ur over-analyzing this, but on the other, i see why..

ok, ... when i was much younger, i had a niece and a cousin (both female) and just a few months apart. they were 6 months or so, and as kids that age sometimes are, both were rather picky about who they liked. the wrong person picked them up, or tried to play with them, and they got upset really fast. anyway, my cousin .. she was rolling around on the floor, and i went over and played with her (i was 13/14--didnt even suspect i was a ped for another year or so) .. handed her a few toys, smiled, etc... tried to find a ticklish spot (was hard... babies dont seem to ticklish, i didnt know that) ... and ... then she asked me to pick her up (arms out) .. so i did. first baby i'd ever held. so i walked in to visit everyone in the other room (me and her were in the 'kids room' with other kids, mostly 1-7) ... my aunt freaks out, thinking something's wrong ... nothing was. my aunt tells me, that NO ONE but her had ever picked up the girl before without her screaming--her own father didnt. but she was happy there. even cried when i tried giving her to mommy. she liked me, and i have no clue why. i carried her around for about an hour, and she fell asleep on my shoulder.

i dont know why she did any of that. my neice didnt much like me at all. she was grumpy baby. ... she didnt even talk to me when she was older--still wont. extreamly shy girl. ... the other one's just as shy, but, 4 years after she was the baby on the floor.... i visited her, and she sat on me and watched me play video games... she just came and plopped on me, without a word.

.. some kids are that way, some arnt.

some kids can feel, i think, and 'open' spot in ur heart... and they walk right in. it might be that you make eye contact with them... they feel that's a familure jesture, and think of u as trustful. a person that never looks at them is to be avoided. ... maybe u seemed interested in what she was doing, so, shared the experience...

she prolly didnt have a reason she was aware of.. but it was caused by something ...

prolly the same something that i've seen in stores ...

insert screaming child in cart/isle .. parent doing everything they can to calm them down ... and i walk over, look at the kid, smile, or make a funny face, or just act interested (trying not to look like i want them to shut up) ... and they usually stop having their fit ... and smile, or wave, or say hi .... had one girl burst out into a full belly laugh ... her mother asked "what the hell did you do?! she's been screaming like that for 5 minutes! thank you!" .... fact is, all i did was look her in the eyes, and puff out my cheeks. that's it.

another girl, about 6-7, was aparently lost in a big store... came up to me, asked ME where her mom was ... there were 20 other guys within the 4-5 isles i was standing near, and even more women ... and she stopped in the middle of them and asked ME ... we found the mom. but why ME? ... i dont know.

there's just 'something' kids latch onto. maybe we'll never know what it is exactly.
