I suppose the kind of internal conflict I was thinking about could be exemplified by wanting to cuddle a crying little girl to make her feel better but worrying that, on some level, I might enjoy it in the "wrong" way - not that I've ever let it stop me comforting a child who needed a hug!

Well, I'm glad to hear it doesn't stop you when it's necessary. :)

Feelings can't be wrong. It's how you translate them into actions that matters. If it's an action you would have done anyway, if you weren't attracted to them, then it's fine!

I can sometimes feel uncomfortable around little girls that I am attracted to, but it's not because I'm worried about my feelings. It's because I'm worried about the way I act making the girl feel uncomfortable, as I'm not really up on the etiquette of social interaction...

I think I err on the side of keeping too much of a distance. The last time I sat down next to a little girl, I hesitated and asked if she minded me sitting next to her. (It was on top of a toy chest - not an especially big one - so we'd be sitting very close together.) Her body language replied, "What sort of a silly question is that? You don't need to ask that." Well, I don't know. I didn't want her to think I was coming on to her. (If that's the right expression...)

I talked to my friend's mum about the other girl a bit - she is worried about her too but is at a bit of a loss to know what to do as it's apparently very difficult to get her to talk about anything atall.

I'll keep you posted if I hear anything else.

Cool... Well, if the girl knows that there are people who are concerned for her, she might open up a bit. But then again, there have been times in my past when no-one's known what to do about me, because it was very difficult to get me to talk about anything at all. I'd like to say I turned out fine, but I'm not sure that's entirely true!

Oh and yes, fairies are great! (except those evil ones in Torchwood!) ;-)

I never got into Torchwood. I think when it started, it clashed with something else I wanted to watch, and then after that I tried watching a bit, but didn't really know what was going on, so I gave up! Should I have made more of an effort? I gather the first series is out on DVD, so I could try...
