If the demand that people speak English is linguistic oppression then the above is linuistic elitism (a very appropriate term as most Mexicans are not colour-blind) and is just one of many manifestations of their own atavistic, intrinsic racism (disclaimer: not all, just many).

How is this any different than a couple of English-only speaking people finding distance from you, taking off into a corner and whispering, when they need a little privacy? Do you accuse them of elitism? It's really the same concept.

2. Most of my "real life" friends happen to be Hispanic and Latino and I'd agree with this. Because most PEOPLE are not colour-blind. However, a very small part of the reason I prefer their company is that I find Latinos to be generally more culturally tolerant than blacks, whites, Asians, etc.

Yeah, you'll find a lot of segregation. But I often wonder whose fault that is? True enough, Latinos do tend to stick to their own communities in the U.S...but so do blacks and whites. And there is something to be said for the language barrier[which is not even a real issue for blacks and whites] which far too many people are not willing to work past.
