Hmm, I'm not sure where your point relates to mine, LGs, but my point definitely wasn't that blaming non-procreational sex for society's problems is some recent trend. We talk all the time about its entrenchment in the major organized religions. What I was saying is that first, it is often scapegoated as the cause for social failures (or perceived or fabricated ones) when it becomes convenient. I'm saying this idea that homosexuals caused the fall of Athens or Rome, from my view anyway, was something I was hearing quite a bit in the US during the 80's and 90's when gays were coming out of the closet there and demanding awareness and financial help for the AIDS problem. I believe it was reactionary, in that American conservatives disliked gays, or at least felt their agenda was contrary to their own goals. And the way to discredit their growing power and the sympathy they were starting to receive from the general public was to counter them with fear just as for us now, with these notions that homosexuals caused great empires to fail in the past, and that our new American empire would be in danger of collapse as well if we assimilated homosexuals into the mainstream, or started fighting AIDS as a legitimate social threat instead of a punishment from God for their "immoral" sexual behavior.

The idea itself, I know, has been around for many centuries, coinciding with the need to control the masses by controlling their sexual behavior and channeling it in ways which benefit those with power, such as the man-woman-making-worker-bees for the state, or the traditional family unit. Anything else is not conducive to empowering the state with ever more human capital, and is therefore vilified as sinful whenever possible. Or at least, that's my own belief.

And yes, pedosexuality is not vilified in ancient times anywhere as far as I know, nor is it in the Bible. Makes one wonder how this new Pope substantiates his new claim on the matter, although coming out with it just before his recent trip to the US is quite logical:p
