I'd rather enjoy a pleasant conversation with the 12 year old and never have to worry about it because I wouldn't tell the friend that I'm a hebephile, but that's just me. You have to do what works best for you of course. Personally, I wouldn't trust anyone besides family knowing about my sexual orientation, and even then it's not that great that they know. My family knows and it's caused me more pain than gain. In hindsight I would have been more careful with keeping my true sexuality a secret.
