Up here in the mountainous northern woodlands of the hinterlands, where I live for 3 months out of the year, we get lots of snow. Well, it snowed quite a bit recently. My friend (we'll call her the little snow angel) hasn't known me all that long, and conditions are such that while we do bond very well when we have quality time together, that time is usually very limited and doesn't come along all that often. Well, leave it to a sharp and spunky LG of 10 to seize an opportunity by the balls and make the most of it:) Recently I'd been getting that slightly alienated feeling when you know you haven't had much time together for a while and both of you get to feeling just a little awkward and cautious. I am sure some of you know the feeling, especially when girls' emotional states can change in an instant without warning, often leaving you wondering what you may have done, when in reality it's just a temporary detour from her usual ways. Anyway...

So there we were. Sitting in a car, bored, crappy song on the radio. What's a poor girl to do with her sinister dangerous pedo pal? She can't sit there watching him twirl his evil mustache listening to his dark laugh forever now, can she? I hear the rear door open quietly. "Oh Eeeeeyore?" I turn toward the syrupy sweet voice and look. She has a devilish look on her face, holding her knitted gloved palm open as to display what's got my name on it. Her smile turns to a look of intense determination as I gasp at what she's thinking. I bolt from the car. I grab a mitten full of the deadly. Well, except that it wasn't yellow:) For about 20 minutes Snow Angel and I race around the car while approving glances from various adults take in our holiday cheer. "Isn't that precious?" Yes, lady, it is. If you only knew what causes this bond that you see as so wonderful away from your television screen!

SO.... I make a big snowball from a parked nearby car, and Snow Angel is already out for the kill. She stalks me around the cars and finally nails me in the shoulder when I turn to run. She makes for the safety of the car. Cheater cheater! Tongues out. I manage to lay my own grenade onto the roof of the car and somehow finally convince her I am unarmed and not playing anymore. She gets the devlish grin again and opens the door. In a flash, I grab it from the room and pummel her a split second before the door slams shut with squeals of delighted fright. A graying construction worker smiles approvingly, he, too convinced that the world must be an ok place after all. Well, let me just say that Snow Angel has an equal amount of yang for her yin. Somehow during this time, she managed to plan a sneak attack on me when I least expected it. We had both gotten back in the car. I muttered a few things to the girl in the seat behind me. I positioned the rear view mirror to see her suddenly smile at me, sweetly, convincingly. I think, "wow, what an angel she..." BLAM!!! Giant handful of snow down my back. Not inside my coat.. she meant business this time.. right down the skin of my back! AHHH!!!!!!! I look back at her in disbelief. She has this excited wild child look in her eye as though she has just been victorious over the older and wiser nemesis. And she was:) She really got me bad. "I can't BELIEVE you just did that!" She glared with a fake serious expression. "Yeah, I'm just the perfect little angel ALL the time, AREN'T I?"

Well, she probably wouldn't understand my reply, so I just sat and wallowed in my awesome defeat. Is she ever:) Even when she sprouts her little horns. Eventually "the adult" returned to the car and the proper guises returned for both of us. Neither of us mentioned a word of what took place. We've shared silence before. We trade one final and mutual glare: "This ain't over!"

Missing her already. If only if only if only. If we had more time for sharing moments like these, I think the exhilaration of ice thrust down my back would pale in comparison to fire in those eyes. If only if only.
