She didn't turn to look at you because you had looked at her - she didn't realise you'd looked at her at that point.

I simply turned away quickly

I understand why. On the other hand, we can sometimes over-estimate the risk of drawing attention to ourselves as girl lovers; simply because our GL identity is so central to who we are and how we define ourselves.

It would even be possible to start worrying the opposite way: if people had noticed you'd turned away quickly, and then suspected 'furtiveness'!

Even if someone had 'suspected' you checking her out, there's always going to be other perfectly valid reasons why you might notice a girl, smile at her, say hi to her, etc.: maybe you thought she was someone you knew.
