Finally aGM!

Wow, been a while for me! But this was a nice one and I just have to share.

I was at work (when am I not, he asked rhetorically) and two AGs came in, I'd guess about 13-15 years old. One short and dark, the other short and very fair, the blonde eyebrows kind. They had a little discussion about money that I didn't catch all of, then I came up and took their order.
The dark one went first, she was the assertive sort, type A all the way. The other girl said she needed more time so I got the first girl's stuff going.

Well, turned out that the second girl didn't have enough money to get anything, her friend just assumed that the blonde one was buying. She had about four dollars to her name after her dark haired 'friend' had gotten what she wanted. The first gal had wandered off by this point and Blondie timidly told me that her friend was really kind of mean to her. She looked so sad and worse, just resigned to how this was working out...

So I asked her what she wanted. If she could have anything we offered, what would it be? What was she in the mood for? She didn't take me seriously at first but I asked her again, very gently and most sincerely. She finally made a selection. One of the things I like about my job is that I have some discretion on giving folks a break if I want to. I worked it out and told her that she was getting the special once-daily discount, her total would be three dollars and seventy nine cents.

That got me a sweet smile and a shy thank you. She was really a pretty thing, a bit high on my AoA but you could tell that she was just a nice person, and that life had maybe taken an extra swing or two at her in the past. Kinda broke my heart a bit, I could tell that she was ready to go without, and without complaining as well, for the sake of someone who took her completely for granted. It made my day to help her out, show her that people still do random acts of kindness every now and then.
