Since ordinary people cannot be trusted with other people's money, why do we want to give them more power when they work for the government?

For the simple reason that our gov't has a built-in system of checks and balances to help prevent its various branches overstepping its bounds. Also, politicians can be elected or unelected by the people; rich corporate assholes cannot. Perhaps if we had a system where we got to vote on who gets to head these mega-corporations then pure Capitalism might work to the people's benefit. But as it stands, a purely Capitalistic system has no moral core. It's sole purpose is to feed itself and to grow, to reap more and more profit; as someone once said, unchecked growth is the ideology of the cancer cell. That is the single best description of Capitalism I've ever heard. Gov't may be incompetent and bloated, but I would much rather live in a system where our overlords are incompetent but essentially benevolent than one where our overlords are amoral to their core. But I'm tired of flagellating this particular dead steed over and over, so I will bid you gentlemen adieu.
