My skin glows like my heart

The day started out none too well, as I woke feeling a little ill. I was worried, because I had set the whole day aside to spend with Mary, and I didn't want to have to cancel it on account of feeling under the weather. But a couple hours later I started feeling a little better, so I chanced it. I'm so very glad I did! What a splendid day was had by Mary and myself as we found our way to the local pool, well-armed with snacks and a large cold drink to share between us. When we arrived we were the only two there, so we had the pool to ourselves for nigh about twenty minutes. Then the others started arriving. First a couple of women, then a family with three kids, two boys and a girl about Mary's age. This girl was nothing much to look at, mind you, especially in comparison to Mary. She was dumpy and rather large for her age (where Mary is small for her age and well-built.) Later a family arrived with about five boys ranging in age from perhaps seven or eight to late teens. A gaggle of boys! Blech! But my Mary remained the star of the show throughout--she isn't shy in the least and joined right in with the boys, including the older ones, in all the games. By then I had had my fill of the pool and was feeling fatigued by swimming and the sun. We were at the pool for perhaps a good four hours before we'd both tired of it.

Then, after returning home for a stint to change into decent clothes for an outing, I took Mary to the movies. I don't have a lot of money for frivolities, but I'd been saving this for awhile just for this occasion. We went to see Kung Fu Panda 2, the only children's film playing this week at the local theatre. About halfway into the film Mary snuggled against me; I know she had to be quite tired after swimming all day; miraculously, she stayed awake through the entire film. I'm certain the sugary treats I had purchased for her did their part to assure that.

And as we left the theatre she slipped her arm into mine, and I swelled with pride. A perfect end to a perfect day. Before we parted, she suggested, "Maybe tomorrow we can do it again!" Ah, if only . . . But I have exhausted my money for now. Furthermore, I have come away from the experience with a sunburn! But now my outside matches my inside, which glows hot with my love for Miss Mary, the girl who possesses my heart. I just hope she treats it gently. :)
