Because they are read for entertainment. They don't belong to heavyweight literature like Kafka's, Dostoevsky's and thousand other writer's books. :)

That's what I thought you meant. But aren't all books are read for entertainment. Why would anyone read any book if they didn't enjoy it? You are of course referring to genre fiction. This comes across as classist. Some of the best books of all time are genre books, and some of the most tedious are "heavyweight literature" as you call it.
