My concerns are three: first, that it is very easy to misunderstand something, especially when you are prejudiced, so yes, I do take the father's confession with a whole plate of salt, even assuming he thinks he is telling the truth (rather than intentionally lying - personally, I also think the setup theory is taking the conspiracism a little too far, in this case at least). All the more so because we need the services of a medium to know an alternative explanation. You know, an incoherent alternative explanation (the "my pants accidentally fell off" of a comedy skit) would have done more to convince me than anything the father or the police can say or do now. Ironic, isn't it?
Second, as mentioned, unless something else surfaces, I have to assume an extraordinary level of violence involved. It's much more parsimonious to assume great violence than to assume little violence with one or another form of bad luck.
Third, because the suspect's suspected crime is child molestation, nobody (except us) cares about the facts or about the level of violence; and it will lead to a sloppy investigation with a predetermined outcome in no charges pressed. That is disturbing to me even if he really was forcing himself on the girl. That is a witch hunt mentality, even if or when the burned really is a witch.
