Exactly, Bald. Sometimes people can take prolonged brutal beatings and survive. Sometimes something fluky happens like they get knocked unconscious by a small number of strikes and hit their head on the way down. Sometimes a person can get stabbed or shot multiple times and survive. Sometimes just one stab wound or shot can kill a person. It depends on the person, where they get hit/stabbed/shot, the quality and quickness of medical attention, etc. We won't for sure until the autopsy results are released in this case, although my assumption would be that there was a fairly brutal beating in this case, based on averages.

IMHO, this was a case of a justified response to a sexual assault that then went wrong, when the angry father was extra-vigilant about putting down the initial threat, to the point where the person was no longer a threat, but was still perceived as a threat or there was residual anger in the father due to protective instincts, disgust at what he had seen, and adrenaline. Police officers experience these effects when confronting suspects in an impersonal manner. I can only imagine what it's like when it's an extremely personal situation involving a father protecting a defenseless child from an attacker.

Of course, that's not to excuse either police brutality or vigilantism. As a girl lover, I am highly concerned that non violent MAPS not become a victim of either. But I do think that it does help to explain it, which is a key difference. My aim in this thread was to explain more than to excuse. I hope I was able to get that across, and if not, then I do apologize for that.
