The problem, or at least, one big problem, is that adults, and particularly men, are prevented to show any love and appreciation even short of of sexual attentions, and even if they don't have any sexual attentions in mind. I am attracted to girls, not to boys, but I am not attracted to every girl either, and even to girls I am attracted to, it doesn't mean that everything I do for her is about getting into her pants (except for the LGF - I do mean to marry her one day)... Now, I am aware I am a CLer, and I am, to a point, interested precisely in subverting this order by defying and disobeying it consciously and intently (to a point the children and me are comfortable with and safe with); but most people just stop caring about children because that's easier. There you got the real human cost.
