I entirely agree that many societies seem to have gone into panic mode with regard to how adults relate to children and I am aware how it hasn't always been roses in many other times and places either. There is very much a "no-contact" ethos in schools and other places in many countries such that it is actually harming the development of the children. Perhaps this will change in the future when the hysteria surrounding paedophilia has subsided. I will be moving back to England shortly (from where I am originally) to keep my mother company and at least children here seem to be treated better in many ways than they used to be treated, for example on the many children's programmes on TV. They are teased and humiliated but no more than any of the adults and it seems the children enjoy this seeing it as affection which most teasing is really. This sort of thing has at least changed in my lifetime so perhaps we will become less critical of physical contact too eventually.
