The Games need not bankrupt anyone if, instead of building new grounds, old grounds were used. Even if refurbishing was needed, it would be much cheaper. Also, if local private enterprise was allowed to do the job (instead of, always, the gubmint - yes, the IOC is very statist), including local sports leagues and companies that want to sponsor them, whether or not they are also involved in sponsoring the IOC. Finally, if the IOC didn't promote their own brand sponsors as monopolies, forcing the local economies to limit their supply of a variety of services.

Even though they also require a lot of investment, compare other sports events.

The soccer World Cup, which is more watched than the Olympics, btw, only involves 32 countries, not 200, but requires at least 8 stadia. And yet, they make money, not lose money! At a lesser scale, so do World championships of other sports with regional appeal, as well as the continental championships of some sports. Formula 1 even has had to build tracks in countries that had no international level tracks before, and still makes money, although that may take a couple years before it does. Why can't the Olympics even break even? That is dysfunctional, period!

But yes, there must be a World Tween Games. And they should compete naked, like the Ancient Greeks used to.
