If history was somehow amenable to verification I might well look to history but I don't have much "faith" in historical evidence - too many religions seem to rely on this, all of which I see as "inventions". We can speculate but it is difficult to know for sure - until that time machine arrives.

What about the Holocaust? It's interesting that there has never been a witness account from anyone who was in a gas chamber, isn't it?

What seems to happen - history written by the survivors or winners - is just how things appear to work. How could it be otherwise until the time we have non-destructable evidence? There were I believe accounts from those involved in the many activities associated with the Holocaust and sufficient evidence form survivors, posssessions, etc. to believe the Holocaust actually happened. Often the weight of evidence is enough to produce a consensus view but there will still probably be instances where we do get it wrong.
