That would get you charged in several places. Why can't you just check actual case law, rather than make assumptions about it?

It depends from place to place and with particular crimes and responses but I do follow most troublesome cases that come to our attention and intervention is always a problem these days. In many cases where force has been used against the perpetrator then the victim does not get charged - I believe in the USA even lethal force is sanctioned - how quaint, a bit like in the medieval days - but it will remain a grey area for quite a while I would think. That, however does not mean we have to as a nation stand by and watch as people steal, burn or murder others with impunity - there are judgements to be made - at least in many countries.
