I understand how the argument can be made that "beauty-ism" is discrimination. But at the same time, making that argument focuses too much on physical beauty, and overstates its importance in real life. Which is non-zero, but which isn't the whole story either: Palin's hawtness certainly helps her be popular, but I look at Bader, Sotomayor and Kagan and am still waiting for a cute US Supreme Court justice...

And of course the preference for beauty is evolved. Beauty is a costly signal, after all.
