one solution is to band together

the history of the human race is one person hating another for this or that reason

then one group hating another--all over the world

turks and armenians hating each other
japanese and koreans hating each other
sunnis and shi'a hating each other

to survive they found the solution in coming together to form defensive groups. unless you want to be a hermit, your isolation will destroy you mentally before it destroys you physically

these groups carved out their own niches in the world -- economic niches, like the Jews went into certain professions, and Irish went into the police in New York

They stayed closed to each other for protection. The protection now can be by phone or still physical proximity

They gave each other the economic opportunities they had, to keep the wealth in the group.

They shut enemy groups out.
