I wonder if he was influenced by Dan Savage's "Gold Star Pedophiles" columns or James Cantor's series of sympathetic pieces that came out around 2 years ago. Even the language has some similarities.

That is likely, given how the world's top scientist has access to time machines to advise a screenplay that is at least as old as early 2012, and probably even one or two years earlier.
