I don't think anyone should take medications if they don't want to, and I respect a stance that says you would rather be authentically miserable than artificially happy.

To the extent the real medications work, they do not turn people into smiling zombies. If anything, I think feeling better gives a person more energy and perspective to take effective action against injustice.
