Dr. Cantor is a good scientist and a man willing to take considerable heat for saying nice things about pedophiles.

I think I remember that quote, and if I remember correctly the context, he is phrasing it that way because some of his audience is likely to be offended by the idea that the term 'sexual orientation', applied to gays and lesbians with warm and fuzzy feelings attached, might also apply to pedophiles. He is connecting with his audience, recognizing their concerns, and then doing a little bit to broaden their horizons.

I'm not aware of any reputable scientists who have questioned his basic results on scientific grounds.

Perhaps he does, while he is doing his little bit to make it less ignorant.
