Take a look at the research available at IPCE some time. It's been over a decade since I looked, but they had research going back a ways - to the 70's and 80's at least - which concluded that kids who had a pedophile in their life became closer to their parents as a result, perhaps because their pedophile was able to explain adult thinking to them somewhat.

The anti-pedophile panic hurts more than just pedophiles - it is ultimately self-destructive.
