It was pro-contact GLers who saved my life. It was pro-contact GLers who taught me that I wasn't a monster, that I had nothing to be ashamed of, that I could not offend and still not feel bad about my sexual interest in girls.
I am glad I never even heard of VirPed until years after I had accepted my sexuality and embraced it. Had I found VirPed first, I'm quite certain I would be in prison or dead. I don't need "professional help in order to remain law-abiding" like VirPed suggests. I have no "shame" in being attracted to minors. I don't need VirPed's "help" to refrain from abusing children. Telling people over and over that they are weak, unable to help themselves, that they need "treatment", is just asking for trouble. It empowers people to become the very monsters society thinks we already are. Telling people to avoid children just dehumanizes children and makes it easier to see them as sex objects. Discouraging or outright censoring people from being exposed to the pro-contact folks who are truly healthy of mind and fully accepting of themselves, just prevents people from getting the support they actually need. Encouraging vulnerable people to out themselves to police is just sick, and begging precisely the very worst of outcomes such as harassment and suicide. And all the while, VirPed sends the worst possible message to the general public who is right now on the cusp of possibly understanding and accepting us once and for all. VirPed is no better than anti propaganda when it leads the nons to the same conclusions, that we must protect children from the dangerous, out-of-control pedophiles. You're convincing a generation of pedophiles to surrender the moral high ground, and it's just sick. |
