The failure to maintain a stabilisation force in Iraq was not really Hillary's fault, but the refusal of the Iraqi government to accept the Status of Forces agreement the Pentagon demands that gives US service members complete immunity from local prosecution. Considering the abuses perpetrated by Americans in Iraq and the perception that many of the soldiers committing them got off light, it's not that surprising that Iraq balked. These same sorts of agreements have also been very unpopular in Okinawa, where a number of American soldiers accused of violent crimes were spirited out of the country and never satisfactorily prosecuted by the US military.
It seems that some foreign countries have little trust in America's commitment to holding its soldiers accountable for their criminal activities. That's not Hillary's fault. ![]() |
