Sorry, I was over enthusiastic about posting the last post.
Israel too should be mentioned as a country who has her defense subsidized by the US, although in their case it is actually more open rather than hidden behind alliance treaties and base deployments. My point about tithing was that a lot of societies historically accepted rates of 10% of income as the recommended charitable donation. In developed countries we're paying half our income instead. An associated point is that private charities have very high efficiency for the money which they receive, while government has a low efficiency. That said, although contemporary religious charities do too, and compete with secular charities as equal, it cannot be inferred and I don't infer, that they always in history did. I don't know how far back in time we can extrapolate current efficiency rates, or how universal they have been, before charities started to be subject to modern models of taxation. What makes you think I don't go to church, or don't tithe? Sure enough I'm a tough critic of Pope Francis and of the cart-before-horse theology of the Roman Church, but my girls still go to a Catholic school, don't you remember? ![]() Cuteness is to die for Cuteness cannot fail Cuteness knows no limit Cuteness will prevail |
