"It's no surprise that when they do offend, pedophiles are more likely to offend against children, just like ordinary guys are more likely to offend against adults."

And yet non-pedophiles offend against children at a disproportionately higher rate than pedophiles, according to FBI statistics.

(Using our language - I think the FBI called pedophiles "preferential offenders", and non-pedophiles "situational offenders", or something like that. It's been many years since I looked at the studies.)

Specifically, the FBI found that 80% of offenders did not qualify in any shape or form as attracted to children, using methods which - in separate studies - reliably found that at least 20% of all men have an attraction to prepubescent girls equal to or greater than their attraction to women. 20% was the lowest number found in any of the studies, with numbers ranging as high as 32% of men that are attracted to prepubescent girls at least equally as much as to women, and about 90% that are sometimes attracted to prepubescent girls. As the studies were not related to the FBI investigation, it is hard to know exactly what their standard was, but as they claimed that 80% of their offenders had no evidence of attraction to children it is even possible that their cut-off was closer to the 10% of men who have no attraction to children at all - but what is clear is that pedophiles are less likely to commit offenses against children than non-pedophiles. The only question is by how much.
