In order to be wise, one must deal with one's own foolishness.

In order to be good, one must deal with one's own evil.

In order to be successful, one must deal with one's own failure.

In order to be light, one must deal with one's own darkness.

Which isn't to say that one must devote much time to these things. To the contrary, wallowing in these things would only make things worse - but one must acknowledge and understand the frailties and temptations one is subject to, if one is to overcome them.
