Wrong on two counts

In reply to the position didn't really change, as I read it posted by EthanEdwards on Friday, April 27 2018 at 3:52:45PM

It's interesting that the group has 42 points to its declaration of principles, of which one is about age of consent laws. That might give a rough feel for how important sex with adults is to kids -- one point in a sea of many others.

Because it saw no need to emphasize that one point so strongly, and because a full ratification of principles wasn't designed for it before the organization more or less folded. This was a topic that had to be dealt with carefully and delicately, and I think you would be mindful of this.

And of course this is a tiny subset of kids who see fit to organize around youth rights at all.

There are many underage youths in the youth lib movement. It's very false to say that most kids have no interest in their freedom of choice regarding sexual matters, and no interest in their rights as full human beings overall. Most of them were unaware of their status as a distinct minority at the time of ASFAR's formation, and it was created in the spirit of the youth lib movement of the late '60s and '70s, which included many underage youths.

During the time of ASFAR's formation, the great majority of kids simply showed their displeasure with their disenfranchised status by acting out in anti-social ways, from running away from home, to suicide, to skipping school, to excessive use of drugs, to forming rebellious or negative sub-cultures like the Goth and emo constituency, respectively. This is because they were indoctrinated all their lives not to think of themselves as a distinct minority group, hence their acting out without joining an actual political movement, while taking various steps towards forming a movement or cause. Social media was just being born at the time, but that is rapidly changing now that more and more youths are becoming aware of the youth liberation movement thanks to the great expansion of social media. No minority group has ever been content with their status as minorities, though all went through a phase where they were conditioned not to think of themselves as such, but simply to accept their lot in life as the "natural way of things." That is not the same thing as being happy as third class citizens by a long shot.
