Because of (1) and (2), (3) is very difficult to do. For the gays, though they endured similar treatment to what we face, they could still love their partner, even if in secret. For us, to love our partners is far riskier. Should their parental "owners" suspect anything, our relationship is over. Should we wish to come out and show the world that our love is beautiful as well, we might consider ourselves lucky to see prison. Of course, that last part is something that gays have had to worry about in the past, though through my modern eyes, it seems that we have far more to worry about in that regard.
