A best friend:

Someone you can still laugh with when the world turns its back on you and they cite "what you are" as just cause for cruelty that they don't compute.

Someone who lets you into their home so that you don't feel alone, even as legions of mindless haters - nay, your own family - would sooner cast you out into the cold (only to claim otherwise).

He does this because he believes in you.

He does this because he knows you weren't designed to inflict suffering.

He does this because he knows you don't deserve the suffering that's inflicted upon you.

Yeah, this is your WWII bomber jacket I'm wearing, dude, as I stand in this bitter wind, smoking this goddamn cigarette.

I love you, and I would be dead without you. You give me hope.

Truer friends may have never existed in the modern history of the human race - believe it.

And don't you doubt for one second that you're wrong about me. I will prove you right or die trying. Thank you for more than I can ever put into words.

That serious look that I get in my eye? That means, "Are you in trouble? Do you need help? Ask, because I bow down to you in respect and I WOULD as a matter of FACT put my life on the line for a cause you deem worthy."
