There has been a lot of news lately that has been indirectly relevant to us.

Just a few examples:

A 16 year old in Logan, Utah was on a bus when she called her 17 year old brother to tell him that 62 year old Michael Fife had sexually assaulted her. Her brother then came and killed Mr. Fife. Surveillance video from the bus showed that no assault had taken place.

This is relevant to us because it is a reminder of the consequences of false accusations, of the sort that are commonly leveled against men (not even necessarily pedophiles) who show an interest in children or treat children decently. This is a case that has attracted national attention and is not easily dismissed. One false accusation in this case has done tremendous harm to not one, but two men. The brother who rallied to his sister's defense will likely end up charged - as he should be. Those who attack pedophiles based on false characterization should likewise beware.

Condolences to Michael Fife's family.

Next example, a lot of talk in certain circles of widespread pedophilia in Hollywood. Hard to say how much is true and how much is not, but several outlets have recently reported that a small time actor, Isaac Kappy, who has recently been claiming that a number of big time actors are pedophiles, recently committed suicide ... or was killed to silence him, depending on who you ask. The story is kind of bizarre, really. I'll let you look it up for yourself, and determine what it means, if anything. His claims regarded actual abuse in many cases, and if those claims are true then I would consider him to be on our side, at least regarding those incidents - because who could favor real abuse? I certainly don't want a pro-pedophile movement to act as cover for abusive personalities, whatever their sexual orientation may be. What is clear, however, is that there is a growing discussion about pedophilia, and while the majority reject our true claims about pedophilia being a sexual orientation, harmless in itself, and often beneficial - I am finding a surprising number of people who are at least aware of our claims. That is a small gain, but it is a gain.

Condolences to Isaac Kappy's family, too.

Third example, the growing movement toward censorship, especially censorship of conservatives. It is amusing that conservatives seem to think that they are the canary in the coal mine when it comes to the question of censorship. After all, we have seen very serious and widespread attempts at censorship by all the same actors for well over a decade, and have pioneered many of the strategies to evade censorship that some of them are beginning to use. Governments outlawing speech they don't like? Check. Social media companies banning anyone who speaks in our favor? Check. Search engines manipulating results to keep the public from finding our resources? Check. We've been there and done that. Maybe if they had not been on board with censorship in the 1970s, and the 1980s, and the 1990s, and the 2000s, they might not be facing censorship in the 2010s.

But, hey! Maybe this will impel conservatives to take freedom of speech a bit more seriously, and that will be good for everyone.

Incidentally, I recently came across a Youtuber who has been putting videos online since she was 9, and is now 14. I don't always agree with her - especially regarding her very negative view of pedophiles - but she's smart and funny and she is facing censorship. Check out Soph if you get the chance. One great example is her video on "multiracial white supremacy". She is proof that even young girls can speak up for themselves and have something valuable to say.
