I was walking outside and I walked past a kindergarten, or a playground. Some little boy had thrown a little wooden stick over the fence and asked the passers-by to throw it back. I was the closest person, so I picked up the stick and handed it to the boy. A little girl, maybe 3 or 4, had also run there and said, "That (one) is old."

First I thought that she meant the stick, but then I realized that she meant me. I just raised my hand and walked away. She did not say it in a nasty or malicious voice.

For a second a funny thought came to my mind, what if I shout back: you are yourself an old hag! but of course I did not say anything, just smiled a little and walked away.

I think I don't look especially old for a guy of my age, I am not wrinkled or anything, on the contrary, but 2-3 years ago I gave myself a permission to grow a Ho Chi Minh beard, you know, no beard on my cheeks, but on my chin, and because it is long and grey and not trimmed, of course a little girl like she thinks that I must be old... And I AM quite old already.

Once, in the end of 80s, I lived in a house and the janitor and his son lived on the same floor. In my mind both the janitor and his son looked stupid, their eyes were far from each other. One day the son called me a wino or something like that, there is no exact equivalent in English for his expression. I almost shouted: you are yourself a wino! Then I thought that it would have been quite immature to call a four-year old boy a wino...

Okay, I have already recovered from this little girl's words, she did not mean anything bad. :)
