Tahiti is now turned into a South Pacific Atlantic City. All tourism and currency suckage.
The Marquesas Islands (still part of French Polynesia) when I read about them was full of unspoiled natural human existence. There was even one book by... gotta look it up... Thor Heyerdahl and his wife on Fatu Hiva and their life there. Cool reading. A really old sailor, permanently shore-bound when I met him, spoke of his year visit there. Hot and cold running girls of all types, all Polynesian, all interested in having a kid by him. (They all feared inbreeding back then.) Yes, Mutiny On the Bounty is a true story. So, too, was the many news articles about pedophilic encounters even by some of the society's leaders (one mayor comes to mind.) Some stories insisted on relating how the girls were being abused and it all was non-consensual. I would doubt it, but still give it some credibility simply because it was adjudicated in court. |
