I feel the same way and have no understanding of "veneration" of chefs and what they do.

I do occasionally go to restaurants and appreciate tasty food but primarily see it as sustenance.

When I see people devoting their careers to essentially food preparation, traveling to Europe to "study," etc., I would be polite to those people but it comes across as a joke to me.
