Survey research is basically bullshit

There was a very old sociological study on racism, what people found - from this study and also over time - was that the attitudes that people express in the context of a survey they're taking can have little association with what they actually believe or how they actually act.

Basically, it's bullshit. You could go to some conservative area of the US and do a survey about attitudes towards Muslims and people are imagining towel-heads with bombs screaming "halalalalala". Then they could meet an actual Muslim like a girl from China and they'd feel and act completely differently.

Not that I'm saying there isn't a lot of hate toward pedophiles, but people that have come out to people they know, like Lindsay (not sure what happened to him) find that it's actually pretty rare to have a strong negative reaction.
