This is the new normal.

In a matter of days, or weeks, or months, new cases will drop, eventually even down to zero for days in a row. But as soon as emergency measures are lifted, they will increase again, as human contact resumes. Countries will go through this cycle a couple of times: rising, emergency measures, falling, emergency being lifted, rising again, emergency measures again... until then emergency measures will never be lifted again.

I'm less sad about your generation or mine, than I am for the younger generations. You have lived decades of a free range life; so have I, though fewer. But today's teens have lived maybe a handful of years, and children and babies never have. To those born now and afterwards, the lives we lived will be as alien to them as living before agriculture or fire is to us.
