An Open Letter in Response to a question.

Howard,

First, I am not a pedophile. I use Rockhard as a screen name on a lot of sites. It's one of my screen names. It's easy to remember, and it doesn't necessarly imply anything about sex.

I want to answer your questions as best I can. First, I am committed to Jack's cause, because I believe that those with a sexual preference toward children are unfairly villianized and are a part of a discrete and insular minority whose free speech rights need to be protected in order to protect the free speech rights of everyone.

Second, I do more that Social Security law. I also do employment law and consumer and borrower rights/protection. I have also handled other civil litigation. I studied constitutational law at American University and have authored a book comparing the legal approaches to and social attitudes toward pornography in different countries throughout the world.

Having said all of that, I havn't done much civil appellant work. I want to take this case, because I believe in free speech and the rights of sexual minorities. I've participated in activities that support transgender rights and radical feminists. I'm also a strong supporter of Gay and Lesbian rights. So while I havn't had a lot of experience, I'm a strong supporter of the rights of sexual minorities.

Now I can't guarentee success. Indeed, in this case, Jack may likely lose. I, however, believe that this case is a win-win situation. All I'm looking to do is to validate Jack's free speech rights. Opposing counsel will argue that this case is about unlawful conduct, not speech. I've ordered a copy of the file so I will be better able to determine if this case is about conduct rather than speech. But even if we lose, I think all parties will agree that Jack has the free speech right to discuss and advocate for his sexual orientation. This is a win for sexual minorities, because it opens the door for open discussion.

So in sum I am committed to the cause of free speech. I am a young and competent lawyer, but I will be venturing into a new area, namely appellant law. But has anyone else offered to help? Of course alot depends on Jack's willingness to cooperate with me and on the amount of resources I have available.

Finally, I could use some financial support. Appeals can be costly and time consuming. If people would like to donate to the cause, please do so.

I hope this answers your questions.

Rich
