Do you see any gay people running around calling themselves "homophiles?" Why not? That's what they USED to be called when it was considered a mental disorder. It changed because they got political power and forced it to be changed. Well, their political movement seems to be doing pretty damn good, LOL! I say we learn from the successes of other "sexual freedom fighters" (for lack of a better term). They refused to be labelled like that, and so do I.

Understand though, I'm just debating with you. As I said, I honestly do respect the reasons you choose to call yourself a pedophile and I understand them completely. I just don't agree. IMO, we're calling ourselves by a name that means "sick." I'm not sick.

An example of what I mean. My average body temperature is about 99.1 (F). Well, by medical standards, I have a fever all the time, lol! However, I'm not going to start calling myself "feverish" because of that. Feverish means you're sick and I'm not sick. I won't call myself "feverish" to try to change the meaning of the word to "someone who has a higher average body temperature." The medical society would never change the meaning unless all the people with above-average temperature got political power and started suing and claiming that "feverish" is a slur. Of course, this is a far-fetched example, but I hope it gets my meaning across.

"Pedophile" means that you're mentally ill. IMO, it is a SLUR! It is a degrading term. Think about it, black people don't encourage whites to call them "nigger" because they want to get rid of that word's negative meaning. It is a profane slur and they don't want others calling them by it. To me, the word "pedophile" is to us what "nigger" is to blacks. It's degrading.
