I would've looked at him and said "Hi, what's up?" and stuck out my hand to him as if to shake hands. This makes people extremely uptight and they go into paranoia mode, but more often then not, it disarms them to the point where they actually take your hand and shake it and actually talk to you. I've only had 2 people in my life who did not shake my hand, a Grandmother with a beutiful 4 yr old, she just looked at me and said "Fine, I don't shake hands." and then turned and left. The other was a 20-something male who was with a 5 yr femsale, I looked at her, and he looked at me, and then I did what I usually do I stuck out my hand and told him "hi what's up?" he just looked at my hand and said "Hey, don't look at my daugther" I said "Why can't I look at your daughter?" he said "I don't know you, so leave me and my daugther alone before I call the cops ok?" I said "Fine with me, call the cops, I have not committed any crime, I just smiled at your daughter, if you take as something more than just a smile, that says something about you now don't it?" and he just looked at me and said "If my daugther wasn't here I would kick your ass." I told him that it was a good thing for his sake this his daugther was here then. It was the only time in my life that I actually had a conversation like that before, never saw the guy again, ever, I guess it was just one of those happen chance things, but the thing is I know that I did'nt anything wrong, I knew and he knew it, and what he was thinking said volumes about his character, which is what I was trying to get him to see.
