I hate to keep a fellow artist in the dark. But I have been rather enthusiastic about this guy's art under my other identity.

But keep studying the old masters.

I spend too d**n much on art books as it is. But I keep finding pop culture references that lead me back to the traditionalists.

It was a cheap genre paperback that piqued my curiosity about Dante's Inferno. Bugs Bunny cartoons led me to explore classical music. ( When I finally heard the Overture to Tannhauser I couldn't stop hearing, "Kill Da Wabbit!" ) And yeah, I like Japanese art as well. The influence of folks like Hiroshige and Kuniyoshi on the French Impressionists and Post Impressionists like Degas and Cassat can't be underestimated.

Although I disagree with the French art establishment's notion of cultural decline. They insisted on classifying Japanese art into Early/Primative, Classical (Which peaked at Utamaro in their opinion,) and Decadent. As far as I'm concerned, aside from Hokusai (who nobody would catch up with for centuries) all the action is towards the latter period. I see it not as a decline, but as a sustained climb until Western influences turned Japanese painting into something else.
