Why I am now happy about the media's lies

This is, in part, a response to AP's post about the Wikipedia article, but it's been bubbling up for awhile. Having graduated with a degree in media (something I never tire of mentioning here, LOL), I know quite well how the media works, on both a large scale and a small scale.

One thing I can say is that the general public is far from being as stupid and easily influenced as media practicioners arrogantly like to assume. Journalist's delusions of grandeur are nothing new, and at one time, they were probably warranted. There was a time in our history when journalists WERE taken seriously, as they were reasonably unbiased and quite professional. But in this day and age, when the entire news business has become more and more like the tabloids, the public doesn't read or watch the news so much to get information as to get titillation--both the journalists and the readers/viewers know exactly what's going on, for the most part.

But, in order to maintain the suspension of disbelief, they all pretend like journalism still maintains the kind of professionalism and nonbias it had in the 1950s, for example. If they didn't, the whole thing would collapse like the house of cards it is.

Of course, there are still some serious journalists and some stories that are so big that nonbiased professionalism MUST be reasonably maintained--these are your major disasters, etc. This is not to say they aren't subject to politics--its the presentation that matters here. You'd never see a journalist writing an article about how "sick and evil" corporate thiefs are, for example, even though their crimes often affect far more people and do far more damage in the lives of others than someone who downloads CP or touches a child's private parts.

We all know sex sells, and sex and evil combined really appeals to the morbid curiosity of people caught in the midst of an evangelical period of history. The truth is, we are scapegoats, yes, and most people deep down know that and feel guilty about it. But, when things are getting more conservative, drug users, non-Christians and gays point the finger elsewhere and say, "Hey, at least we aren't pedophiles. Go get THEM." And, here's the rub: Most of them know the truth and probably feel guilty about that. They have to; otherwise, the vast amount of society can shut off their consciences far too easily, and they would've learned nothing from the lessons of Nazi Germany and the Holocaust.

Why is it that journalists are so quick to deflect the comparison between the persecution of the Jews and our persecution? Because, they know its a fair comparison, and they are quite insecure about that. They know the public is onto them, at this point, and they're doing everything in their power to regain the ground they are quickly losing.

But the public DOES see through the BS now. The stories of those who've admitted their pedophilia to people close to them proves that. The majority of such stories have been positive, the friends and relatives accepting (if not always entirely non-judgmental.)

And so, the more and more the media goes out of its way to demonize us, the more obvious such tactics are. There are only two possible outcomes in the long run--one is a massive uprising on the order of the Nazis, in which peds are systematically murdered like the Jews (as so many journalists seem to subtly suggest in their articles, like the writer of the Wiki article), or, far more likely, we are eventually accepted by the general public.

A Nazi-like uprising here would give the rest of the world a good reason to band together against the US, something it has wanted to do for a long, long time. The US as such would be demolished and usurped by other nations, just as Germany was after WWII.

Meanwhile, the more the mainstream media demonizes us and calls us names, the sillier and less professional they come across, and its obvious to more and more people that their articles and TV news programs are now more akin to hate radio than true journalism. The majority of society IS moral, reasonable and intelligent enough to not get taken in by this--of that I am certain. Most of the rest should be sufficiently afraid of another world war, and the probability of the US losing its place as the world's wealthiest nation, to back down. Sex is sex, but poverty, terrorism and death in your own back yard is quite something else.

In the end, we make our own reality, and so we should celebrate our persecution, because a positive outcome for us is inevitable. Yes, we should fight back; I certainly don't think we should give in to their terrorism and lies. But, we should adjust our attitudes as well and look at this differently. We will win, and they know it. Hence, all the anger and hostility--they're already balking at their inevitable defeat, and we, on the other hand, should be celebrating. :)
