On an earlier version of the Wiki article on Pedophile Activism there was a link to a very interesting essay called "The Pedophile Impulse", which argued that sexual attraction to children was the extreme end of the built-in imperitive in all of us to love and protect small children. It also pointed out that when many woman want to be appealing, they use "baby" faces and talk like a small child. The link seems to be gone now but I'm sure you could find it through Google.
