I speak Spanish and am anything but Latin. I know a good many multi-lingual children. I also happen to live in a part of the world where it is not unusual for many people to be like this. I assumed nothing.

What would be unusual, though, is for a man to approach a little girl and start speaking a language assuming SHE can understand. It isn't even funny, if that were the intention.

Her reply was incredibly rude, no matter of any of this, and it is agist to not see it that way. You know damn well, Seamus, that if this same exact story had been told about an adult woman brushing off a man so rudely she'd have been called a "bitch." Why should her rudeness be excused- laughed about even- because of her age?
