A GM from when I was a GLer

This GM goes back to November 08 - only a few months, but the change has been short and drastic. I felt I best post this now, while I can still remember it.

I was on a generic two storey bus travelling back home from the generic city to my generic town. I was seated upstairs, sat in a seat behind a 4yo girl and her grandmother. This was mid afternoon-ish, and she had been at school (morning school I think) and was going to her grandmother's for dinner.

This bus journey was about 45 minutes in length and so I thought that I had plenty of time to strike up some conversation and involve the little girl in some way. I remember that she was adorable, and though I had not seen much of her - I knew that I would very much like to - at least on this bus journey.

I was thinking about the best way to broach the subject. As the girl was sitting quietly for about 5 minutes into the bus journey now, I decided on making a comment to the grandmother about "how quiet" and "well behaved" the girl is, perhaps contrasting her with some fictional relative of mine - with the point of view of saying "she is far more well behaved than my cousin/sister/niece/etc", and that would be an appropriate "ice-breaker" to initiate more conversation. After about 5 minutes more, I got up the nerve, and said it to her. She was pleasant enough, and we made light chit-chat a little bit, and this caught the girls attention. I can't recall what our conversation was about, but I ended up bringing the girl into it and she was telling me about her school and her friend - giving away quite a few details you normally wouldn't to a stranger - but she was 4, and I was just a nice man on the bus with a smile. She turned around, and I saw her face, and I recall her being absolutely beautiful. It was (as I remember it) like the gates of heaven had opened, and when I looked into her eyes, I could see heaven in them. She took my heart away with a glance, and with her words only carried it closer to herself.

Anyway, she didn't mind my attention at all, and after a few peek-a-boo games, and a little hand contact (touching her soft hands), I recall her grandmother saying to her that "I think you have a boyfriend here, but we won't tell you mom". I did not know what to make of that statement, but the sentiment still interests me to this day. It did seem like she realised I was quite interested in the little girl, and didn't mind one bit.

Anyway, they had to catch another bus as I got off, and in the rain that followed, she was the clear ray of sunshine in another bleak day.

Note: This may be the last ever GM i post. I do not honestly know if I will ever have such a thing again.

Hope you enjoy it.
