Also, I think over-protectiveness goes hand in hand with over-controlling, dominating, authoritarian parenting. Some kind of delusion where the parent thinks they know everything, and are infallible. Therefore they make all of the choices for their child. They are their own worst enemy, and usually self-destruct their own lives, more than anyone else in their life. Usually they don't let anyone into there life, so that is partly why.

And I couldn't tell you how to deal with such people. Ack, run?
