Normalizing Fantasy

Fine, if you'll stop referring to the sexual fantasies of others as "what I would want to project as the norm" and describe your reaction to the alternative as "I have looked at as much as my body can withstand."

Disgust is a bodily reaction to the violation of norms as if it were an illness.

We here would ask why any individual would value conformity in fantasy. And further, we find harm to be repellant, not failure to conform.

You keep on harping about how fantasy ought to be normative. That's not what any fantasy is about.

In fact, I'll go further and argue that greater harm comes from the commercialization of fantasy; because mass-culture requires a lowest-common-denominator second guessing of the audience's desires.

50s era culture sold us the pneumatic blonde as the Normative fantasy object.

I respect more the lone weirdo saying, "here's what turns me on." His/her fantasies might do nothing for you, but at least they authentically do something for someone. And by virtue of being authentic, might do something for someone else.

But then again Pronz is no exception. The worst Horror authors think "what will scare them?" The best think "what scares me?"

Fantasy, by its nature is idiosyncratic. Commerce, by its nature is about judging the mass market. Fortunately, what the internet has done is make it more possible for niche markets to emerge; thus closer approximating actual desires.

If I like unshaven Tomboys, there's no hope for me in Playboy. Thank Ghu Abby Winters likes them too.

Though I think I take greatest exception to "conformist contrarians." The sort who "defy" social norms by conforming to stereotypes about transgression. I mean, can there really be that many people whose authentic self is into mohawks and bondage gear?
