The "Obamacare" bill was not progressive in the least! It was a huge giveaway to the big insurance and pharma companies. Trust me, I know that personally because my options are to pick and choose between what insurance or drug company I want to purchase! The "public option" Obama ran on his campaign was genuinely progressive, but he was never serious about it! That became clear immediately after his election.

Every measure that a centrist Democrat pushes through is considered "progressive" simply because: 1) It was done by a Democrat, not by the Republicans, who compete with them to be the main benefactor of Big Business (which is why they routinely claim that Obama is "far Left" or "socialist"!); and, 2) it's usually not conservative enough for the Far Right extremists who now dominate the Republican Party, much as the DLC dominates the Democratic Party. Romney was conservative to the core, but nevertheless "too moderate" for the Republicans' tastes. Almost every aspect of the Obama health care bill was a giveaway to the lobbyists of the big HMO's and drug companies, and a few million Americans remain uninsured and unable to qualify for the greatly weakened Medicaid program.
